Hard Floor Care
If you have some form of hard wood flooring in your home then you will find it easy to take care of, to clean and to maintain. The following tips will help make the best out of your hard floors:
- Cleaning - you can hoover or brush hard floors but many people prefer to use one of the specialist cloth cleaning systems to take dust and debris up instead.
- Washing - all you need to wash a hard floor is a damp mop and do be careful not to wet the floor too much as this can cause damage over time. There are also specialist wood floor cleaners that you can buy to add to your washing water which will help get rid of any greasy or stubborn marks and stains. Do be careful before using these that you pick a cleaner that is suitable for use with your flooring type and/or finish.
- Rugs - some people like to put down rugs and mats to help protect those areas of hard floors that have a lot of traffic.
- Furniture - heavy pieces of furniture can scratch and dent hard floors so it is sensible to put floor protectors on furniture that might be an issue.
- Polishing/waxing - you may find over time that you need to add a layer of wax, polish or varnish to your floor. Again, it is important to choose the right product here to match the finish of your floor.
The key factor of hard floor care is regular cleaning - if you allow dirt and dust to build up then it can scratch and damage the floor over time.
